This health insurance company had acquired a prototype that needed to scale in a short time. The issue was that the prototype was just that, a prototype, and needed to be rebuilt into a highly available, fault tolerant, and scalable application.
Moreover, the application needed to:
- Handle traffic variance and seasonality
- Serve a tech-savvy younger generation
- Adhere to HIPAA compliance and strict governance
To get started, Atlantic BT jumped in with the client to gather requirements and perform a business analysis.
Next, we started building the application from scratch. Our extensive experience in the .NET framework and AWS gave us a great starting point to build quickly but with the necessary continuous integrations, unit testing, and continuous deployments. We decided to leverage S3 for JSON object storage over a traditional RDBMS for document type data. We built a reporting and dashboard application over normalized JSON data that was written into MSSQL. We leveraged loggly for log storage and retention, but built application observability in CloudWatch. We continued to develop and augment the initial application over time to meet the shifting business and compliance requirements.
