PHP is a back end language primarily used for custom applications, content management systems (such as WordPress), eCommerce engines (such as Magento), or even massive sites like Facebook.
The PHP acronym originally meant Personal Home Page, but the acronym became Hypertext Preprocessor — in other words, a server-side language that is processed before sending the output to the browser.
