Domain Strategy

The goal of this process is to identify all domains, subdomains, and major subdirectories that will contain all content and functionality. This strategy is the first step in the information architecture (IA) process. All research performed prior to this step is used as part of creating a recommended strategy.

The output of this process will be used as the core foundation for the entire project.  Data architecture and the remaining IA work requires this information.  When a domain strategy is performed, it also serves as the first step of an overall content strategy. Likewise, each website or domain will also each have their own content strategies.   Hosting architecture may be adjusted given which functionality lives on what domains.

A disjointed set of websites and new company goals may yield a complex domain strategy.
