Hiring an SEO firm
- What are some things I should look for when hiring an SEO firm?
- Reputable: Ask other people which company they have used in the past. Look at the company’s site. Does it look professional? Read reviews on local business directory sites.
- Search: It can be as simple as searching for a company’s clients in Google. Look at some of their SEO clients and see if they are ranking well.
- No Guarantees: Any company that guarantees that they can show up #1 in Google for a competitive phrase is lying. The truth is that nobody can guarantee that because nobody controls the rankings except the search engines. There are SEO methods that will help you increase your rankings, however it would be unethical to say that someone can have your site rank #1 for a term.
- No Blackhat SEO methods: Make sure that the company is not doing anything that will hurt your site. Some companies will try using deceiving tactics to get you to rank higher in search results. These tactics can actually get your site penalized or even banned from the search engines. Stay away from companies that say they use automated software. This can be a red flag that they are using blackhat tactics.
- Track Results: Ask the company how they will be tracking the results of the SEO campaign. The only way to truly know if your SEO is effective is to get a baseline to start from.
- Customer Service: Are they easy to contact? Will someone actually answer the phone when you call them or will you just get an automated voice system?
