Important considerations when designing a new site
- What are the most important things to consider when designing a new website?
The answer to this question really depends on your goals or what you expect your website to achieve. If it’s simply a branding exercise, which we don’t normally recommend, then the most important thing to consider is design and how well your new design will communicate your brand messaging. If your website will be used to sell a product online or generate leads, the list of important things to consider gets a bit longer. Here is a brief list of the most important things to consider:
- Call to action – are you asking your visitors to do anything such as submit a contact form or call you? If you’re not, then they probably won’t do anything and your website won’t perform as well as it could.
- Organization – it should be easy for your visitors to get around within your site. You should provide good information so that your visitors know exactly what you do and how you do it. A jumbled or confusing navigation that makes your visitors work too hard to find information is a turn off and you’ll likely lose business because of it.
- Content – Search engines use content as one of the most important elements when ranking your site. Plagiarized content or weak ineffective content will significantly hurt your ability to rank highly in the engines.
- Design – Design is always an important element in the user experience. The design should accurately represent your company and convey the professionalism and to some degree the personality of your organization.
