Meet Tera Simon

I am the classic story of a small town girl who set my sights for the big city only to discover my roots have always been planted in North Carolina. I fondly claim being a Southern Belle with Yankee Flair. Growing up as an only child in Hickory, NC, my parents told me that I never learned how to walk; I went straight from crawling to running. This pent-up energy meant I needed a lot of entertainment.  I tried dance, but was told I would never be a prima ballerina due to flat feet and clumsiness. Thus, I fell into the circuit of sports - playing soccer, basketball, softball and running track. Coordinated I am not, so it wasn't an athletic scholarship that got me into NC State.

I found myself working freelance for a startup production company.  I was assigned many different hats, but the one that fit me best was being a Project Manager – and I’ve never looked back. Since I’m only happy when my scheduled is packed and I have a passion for all things digital, I completed my masters in Digital Media Theory and Design from The New School in NYC while working as a full-time project manager for a video game company. To date I’ve overseen projects that range in all shapes and sizes, but my most successful project has to be planning my wedding in 2009. With numerous challenges thrown our way including: our original ceremony location going bankrupt, learning two months before our wedding date that our reception venue would still be under construction, my husband forgetting the marriage license, and getting robbed during our ceremony, we delivered our “I Dos” on time, and under budget.

Top 5 things you don’t know about me:

1)      I played the role of the fighting Kangaroo in Peter Pan during my theatre days. Strangely, I don’t recall there ever being a fighting Kangaroo in Peter Pan.

2)      I broke into the boys’ only club to be the first female co-host on Sports Revolution at NC State.

3)      I used to host a TV show that came on throughout the southeast before NASCAR, yet I don’t watch NASCAR.

4)      I’ve been on the ESPN top 10 highlights list, and not for my athleticism (though I do have a solid throwing arm)

5)      I left everything I knew in Raleigh, NC and moved to Hoboken, NJ for a change of pace and I guy I’d only known for three months. I eventually married that guy.
